The second webinar presentation today was with Karen, Emily, Melanie and Mary. It was about Learning Disabilities Assistive Technology. It encompases reading, writing, math.
Reading Comprehension, $1.99: - different reading levels, lots of subjects and assessment uses as well. ( speech selection works well with it)
7 Notes Premium, $ 8.99: You can add images to the notes you are taking. It uses word prediction, spell check, stylus can be used also. It does not have text to speech, however, but it does transfer handwriting to text so kids wil love it! ( You can also send to a printer, or email it)
Tools for Students, .99: supports student's written output, using 25 different graphic organizers. It doesn't require wifi, and every student can benefit and is only available for ipad!
App Writer US, $ 19.99: Only for ipad iOS5. It supports reading, writing,kids with visual processing isues, does text to speech, and has a dyslexie font.
The third webinar was with Lara, Maureen, Tiffany and Wade. It was on Apps for Special Education:
Dragon Dictation: FREE- great for students requiring compensation and adaptations ( evernote) Teachers can use it for reporting, and students who have difficulty with note taking, it takes oral notes and translates. It gives greater independence, and is great for personal notes, exams, and group projects. It follows all the voice commands of Dragon Naturally Speaking
App Settings:FREE can include voice over, zoom, large text, high contrast white on black, speak selection, assistive touch and split keyboard.
Maps app: FREE Links to google maps, and is great for Social Studies lessons, including street maps, satellite maps, etc. It is great for kids who needs visual reinforcement, and linking mapping to the real world.
Math Tappers apps:FREE Good for reluctant learners, and is self checking. It encompasses several grade levels, including measurement, operations, number sense etc. Kids can set settings to their own levels, and it can be timed! Awesome because teachers can adjust levels without drawing attention to kids with LD.

Apps for Reluctant Writers presentation:
Strip Designer: $2.99 You can create comic strips, and is a good idea generator, and has stickers and bubbles, and good for kids with limited fine motor skills. Good for reference sheeting, sequencing, and demonstrating various curriculum topics. There are tons of templates you can use!
Pictello: $14.99 Good for students with limited fine motor skills, and varied reading levels, with many topics. You can also create picture stories, journals, and is a UDL ( universal design for learning)
Writers Toolbox: $3.99 Good for students needing help with idea generation, writing process, spelling, grammar etc. Reading skills do have to be higher developed however.
Instant Poetry:$1.99 Choose theme, and get a word bank- like magnetic poetry. You can email out or ceate as jpg.
Apps for Reluctant Readers presentation: Anne, Martha, Jean and Amy
Audio Books and Interactive Books: Free ibook app at apple store ( .99 and up) Great for sustaining engagement
Story Builder- can create your own audio books, and is great for language development.
Vbookz- uses different languages, and highlights words, and changes speed.
Stanza- can get voice options for electronic texts, computerized voice, and compensatory strategy for students who cannot decode words/ text. ( might be obsolete)
ABC Pocket Phonic ( lite version is free): Can take photos of players, and begins with initial sounds, and can vary accuracy and tracing. Gives sound, but not letter name, ( sounds are way more important.)

LD Resource Guide 2008- Barb will email to us as an excellent resource document, with accomodations, and universal design. You need to download PDF reader, the most updated version, and a pop out of apps from Barb will come out! This would be great for the development of IPPs!!!
