Friday, July 6th
Acadia Conference Day
Key Note Address:
Drs. Philip and Diane Fergusen
Interesting opening activity where we collaborated to create 3 adjectives for families of children with disabilities:
1. patient
2. advocates
3. overworked
Another activity whereby we created a triangle to represent a relationship we have had with a parent:
Mine is representative of a volatile relationship I've had over the past 2 years with a parent group of a young boy with high functioning autism.
My triangle would look like this:

parent-school communication log
parent wanting 150%
should be more child- centred, instead of parent centered

Karen Dyke: "What's Home Got to Do With It?"
Principal: Aldershot Elementary, Annapolis Valley
First Question: Where is your home?

Very important part of how we set up the school environment. Impacts over time globally, there has been a centralization of services and more universality with benchmarks and outcomes.
Big shifts over the past decade in Nova Scotia:
APEF documents for each grade level
GCO's and SCO's and the language of standards
These are not central, but more digital and universal
It is amazing how small the world is now, and how instantaneous and accessible everything is!
